LeDoux Versus the FVZA

The Ray LeDoux case was about as routine a case as the FVZA ever handled. LeDoux, a , was infected with vampirism. FVZA agents McDougal and Sims tracked LeDoux, confirmed his status and exterminated him. But what started as a simple case turned out to have a profound impact on the agency.

When agents informed LeDoux' parents of their son's fate, the elder LeDoux took the news. Four days later, he announced he was bringing suit against the agency. The murder of Ray LeDoux was a violation of the constitution. His son did not get his due process. He was convicted of a crime without benefit of a trial. The FVZA is playing judge, jury and executioner. They have too much power, not enough oversight.

In court, the arguments. FVZA attorney stated that vampire-hunting was dangerous enough without having to capture and contain, and incarcerate them. Vampirism was an irreversible fate. Vampires must feed on blood. There was not enough blood to keep them alive. That blood was needed for medical emergencies. However, LeDoux's attorney countered that Ray LeDoux had been a victim of a vampire, that he deserved compassion.

The resulting years, known as the Black years. In practical terms, there was not enough blood (for a short time, a program put in place, those of more means could stockpile blood to feed)(vampires had to be captured, charged with a crime)

This system proved impractical, dangerous, foolish.
