Using the Sword Against the Undead

Part III: The Side Swing

These swordfighting tips are excerpted from a 1962 FVZA training manual.

If you engage in any amount of combat against the undead, then you'll probably use the side swing much more frequently than the overhead swing we learned in the last segment. A good side swing can keep a pack at bay and deliver death blows to single opponents. It is useful against both vampires and zombies.

As in the overhead swing, you should keep your shoulders relaxed and "throw" the point of your sword at your opponent. Keep the right arm fully extended and your right elbow locked during the swing; if you bend your right elbow, it can act as a shock absorber, thus reducing the power of the swing.
