| Ok, so here's the deal. The local Dick's Sporting Goods is having a sale through saturday on Mossberg 500's 12GA with two barrels, one smooth bore for birds, trap, etc. The other is a rifled barrel with some scope(probably a shitty one) that comes with it all for $250. I have the money but I wanted to get a scope for another gun I have. What i'm thinking about is selling my Remington 870 20GA Express Magnum to get some money back. I was thinking I could get 300 for it? Do you guys think I could get that much out of it? Do you think it's a good deal? Because for some reason, I just have this view that mossbergs are lesser to 870's. So, what you guys need to do, is convince me that I should buy it and wait to sell my 870 so I can get that scope. |

The question ain't so much which gun is better as how much you want a 12 ga instead of a 20.
I would say for versatility alone its worth it. More ammo in a wider assortment of types, and a slug barrel to boot.
Ask $300 for the Remmy, sure...If it doesn't show, lower some. I could get a new one for $340 up here is the problem. what is the price of a new one like in the US? _________________ And it's on through the night

Ok, so now my dad and my uncle say I should buy the shotgun and keep the other one. My uncle says he's shipping me a scope to use, but stars, you know what I want that scope for and I don't think a battery powered illuminated reitcle crosshairs is what I want. I don't even know what the MFG is! And it's gonna cost me $250, so wtf? _________________ The light at the end of the tunnel is just my muzzleflash. |

Battery lit reticules are useless.
I dunno. Some people like em I guess. Its a scope with a battery housing and an extra knob that you can turn to make the cross glow red.
I dunno...I would *cough* imagine it works if you wanna shoot a deer at night with a spotlight. But even then you don't need it. I imagine. A thick duplex works in low light. Seriously tho, lots of critters like to come out when there's just enough light to make ya wonder if its still legal to take the shot. But if you can't SEE IT you can't aim at it.
Why keep the two shotguns? Unless you really want two pump action shotguns. Not that it isn't cool to have two pump action shotguns. But do you really want two?
This is just me but unless you shoot a lot and are recoil sensitive, small in stature, or want to shoot smaller birds and not mess em up so bad a 12 does anything a 20 can do just better. _________________ And it's on through the night

I feel the same way, that's what I said to both of them, I don't need two of them. But my dad doesn't like to sell his guns, he's funny about that, I would be too, but I hardly shoot it anymore. They feel it's too pretty to sell, and I agree the wood is beautiful and it has a great finish. It was my first shotgun at 10 years old. I shot the shit out of it when I was a kid, I went on my first hunting trip with it, bagged like 7 pheasants and 6 quail, even had the wadding lodged under one of the pheasant's wing where the armpit(IDK what the proper term is) is located. But, it's not sentimental to me. It's just a shotgun, idk what the big deal is about selling it. _________________ The light at the end of the tunnel is just my muzzleflash. |

Is it your dads gun or yours?
Sarge...this one is such a grey area...keep the two shotguns, or scope a badassed 30-06. Not clear cut at all _________________ And it's on through the night

I can understand wanting to hang onto the shotgun. I have two also. My Mossie 835 and my grandfathers old Savage single shot 12gauge. The Savage is nothing but a wall hanger now, too broke to shoot, though I'd be loathe to shoot it even if it was operational. There's no reason to keep it. I shot it a few times as a kid and my grandfather wasn't particularly attached to it. There's something about it though that makes me keep it around. _________________

No, it's my shotgun. But I'm in college right now so all of my guns are at my house locked up. _________________ The light at the end of the tunnel is just my muzzleflash. |

I have an 835 for hunting and an 870 for home defense.
I also plan on getting a Saiga 12 someday for my checkpoint gun
So... is 3 shotguns too much?
My brother has 6, three 870's, two Bennelli's and a 590. _________________

Y'all make me seem like some kind of shotgun nut.
4 - Remington 870
2 - Saiga 12
2 - Remington 1100
And my grandfathers 410 from when he was a boy. _________________ Palmettoshootersforum.com |
