to be undead would be to die then arise from dead and exist as though you were alive.

Are there any myths of a human needing to die before returning as a werewolf?

the myth of a vamp is that
(1) a person is drained of their own blood (which would kill them) and it is then replaced with the blood of a vamp (which brings them back as an undead being).
(2) that the blood or venom of a vamp kills the mortal body and it rises up from the dead an immortal.

Well considering you must "survive" the attack by a WW to actually become one. I would say that they aren't counted as undead.

I rather perfer the myth where you must be born into the life of a werewolf. It must be in your DNA. It was refered to as loup-garoux in some legends. Just another term for werewolf I think tho. Just like strigoi.
