In addition Sarge, be very careful of the snow golems wearing hats. The snow golem might come alive when you least expect it. _________________ Nemo Me Impune Lacessit

And got a cheap source on the shovels, Bob? |
This is the design I was talking about. Tougher than hell and 10 times better than the old version of the GI shovel that had the threaded collar to lock the spade. Sportsman's Guide had them once or twice, right now I can find them in Cheaper Than Dirt. Note the reviews from other guys who own one.

I also found those in the Smokey Mountain Knife Works Christmas catalog:
http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/product.jsp?Mode=Catalog&Brand=&CatalogName=XMAS+2009&PriceStart=&PriceEnd=&Feature=&Cat=&filter=&SearchText=gps91552300&Submit.x=7&Submit.y=11&list=10&range=1&order=Default&SKU=GPS91552300
And by the way, for anyone still in search of a good survival blade, let me suggest a design by a friend of mine, one of the Schrade Extreme Survival knives. Brian Griffin (Griffin Designs) put a lot of thought and effort into designing a knife that would stand up to the roughest use, and you can see his new design and his test run with it here:
http://www.wildsurvive.com/outdoor-camping-forum/index.php/topic,4236.0.html
That design is in the SMKW Christmas catalog, but not the online version. Retail is $39.99, but the catalog made one misprint...the blade is not stainless steel, it's high carbon steel--1075 or 1095. _________________

I had an encounter with a snow golem once, I got to close and it stabbed me in the leg with an icicle. That was one cold, winter day.... _________________
